Big weekend coming up--we're officially kicking in Summer for our annual Stompy + Sunset Memorial Day Jamboree this Sunday at our favorite party spot, Cafe Cocomo. LANCE DeSARDI, will be holding it down on the outside terrace, and we're flying in jazzy house guru KEVIN YOST to take it there inside until well into the night. Strap those sneakers on tight......

The Funk

Back in 1988, 17-year old DANNY MEKANIK rented out a studio to remix the 'Jungle Book' movie, and ended up sampling the 'Untouchables' and picking up a 303 and a revolutionary Acid House track was born. Fast forward 21 years later and THIS AIN'T CHICAGO's "Ride the Rhythm" is reissued with another revolutionary, DERRICK CARTER, tasked with taking the mantle and remixing it in his own unique style. We've always known FRED EVERYTHING was a master at his craft, and now Om Records makes it official with their inaugural "Om: Masters" series featuring a showcase of Fred's originals and remixes; JEFF SERVICE is back on Guesthouse with "Leatherhead"; Groovin, the NYC based Funky house label we just picked up, drops ROBB SWINGA's "Northstar"--add to your Picks, more to come; MAGIK JOHNSON "Stands Up" on Potty Mouth, with a comfortable combo of fidget and funky house; ARTS & LEISURE return to Illegal Cargo with "Summer Sampler vol 1"; GIANO's "Stella in the Starlight" on Alphabet gets a disco treatment from SLEAZY McQUEEN and DAVE ALLISON; Tangible's GABRIEL BLACK releases a solo EP on Lunatic Jazz, "The Silent Coup"; Funkfield enlists TOMMY LARGO and his "New Rhythm EP" to the label; SERCAN & NICO LAHS take a trip, "Back to the Past" on Strictly Chosen; Flapjack's latest party rocker is "The Head Nod" from THAT PERUVIAN BOY, exclusive to Stompy; and Smoke City have what is sure to be one of this season's hottest tracks, "Bear Jack Swing" from THE HOODFELLAS featuring BEAR WHO?'s vocals and Brazil's ANHANGUERA on the remix.

Soul Full

DJ DEALER's Look At You continues to be a staple in the House music world, covering Soul Full and Funky ground. They do both in top form this week with two releases, "Soulmates" featuring remixes from GROOVE JUNKIES and KAROL XVII & MB VALENCE, and the Stompy-exclusive "Rhythm Clinch" from newcomer ARMBAR with his jackin' jazz. The sound of San Francisco Soul is represented this week with "SF to Sydney" from RANDOM SOUL & VINCENT KWOK, and DJ MFR releases his "Rome Departure" compilation featuring JAY-J, CHARLES WEBSTER and HALDO, and also gives FABIO TOSTI an outlet for his "Miami Nights EP"; underground house legend TODD EDWARDS' "I Might Be" is remixed by JOY ORBISON and MJ COLE; "Topography" is the latest EP from JOSHUA IZ and his Vizual label; the GROOVE JUNKIES' "Far Away" gets the remix treatment from YOGI & HUSKY, MICKY MORE and RICHARD EARNSHAW; Freerange goes deep and scored with MATHIAS MESTENO's "Overlooking the Boulevard"; DUWAYNE MOTLEY, ALBERTO DRAGO, CHEMARS and JANGATHA remix SEASIDE PROJCET's "Let Me Flow" exclusively to Stompy; and due to high demand, the London label from the mid 90s Groove Centric debuts digitally with new mastering and packaging.

Born in Prague, managed in Sydney, BEEF is an international label which has featured such veterans as ROBERT BABICZ, DEEPCHILD and MARTINEZ, and to celebrate their addition to the site, they've added "Prime Cuts 3" exclusive to Stompy, featuring tracks from PEZZNER, SHUR-I-KAN, SHADES OF GRAY and KREON. ART BLEEK's album "Message To The Dreamer" provides the newest piece of elegant, Detroit-inspired house on the revitalised EevoNext imprint; Copenhagen's PHONO & KEMI deliver a spirited and stylish groove in the form of "Tiger Tiger" for Highgrade; Robert Hood continues his 'Perpetual Masters' series on his M-Plant label with classic re-releases--this time is the first ever MONOBOX release "Realm" which is widely held as a long time techno classic; Cimelde welcomes a new artist to their roster based in Athens, Grece called FOG, with the colourful "4GeatEat EP" featuring Cimelde regular LUCA M on the remix; hot on the heels of his recent releases on Ovum and Be As One, the fourth release from newly founded Hideout comes from the co-label owner himself, LUCA BACCHETTI with "The Endless Summer"; Swiss fellas, GIANNI SIRAVO & SVEN LACOSTE are into proper house and techno music, and the "Rotate EP" on Morris Audio is another classic example of the AZUNI sound: straight beats combined with harmonic synths and catchy vocals; Discobelle enlists DROP THE LIME, who reinvents himself and takes the remix of "Dirty Blonde" to a whole different place then we are used to, and it might just be some of his best work so far; Love Letters from Oslo starts with the 013 in the year 2010 and presents us with "Point of View/Kamkama" from JOHNNY D and SASCHA DIVE, two producers of the special kind; and the long awaited album from DAPAYK SOLO on his Mo's Ferry imprint comes in two parts--"Decade One - The Album" and "Decade One - The Remixes", both exemplary pieces of work.

TWO COSMIC KIDS are Mullet Record's very own Sare Havlicek and Tate Masimore, who decided to amalgamate their musical skills with the Two Cosmic Kids debut outing entitled "Vanilla Custard", which fuses Tate's fly funk skills and Sare's cosmic synthesis perfectly. Om Records alt-sublabel Smoke N Mirrors debuts with the HOT TODDY single "Down to Love", featuring FRED EVERYTHING offering up a deeper remix; Tirk scans the CHICKEN LIPS discography to pick out the most strut-worthy and slickest they can offer for "The Best of Chicken Lips", from the influential anthem 'He Not In' to tracks from their seminal first album 'Echoman'; SOLVENT releases his "Subject to Shift" album on Ghostly International; and two of the UK's most creative music producers who have caught the attention of Hot Chip, Zero 7, Holy Ghost! and Groove Armada, MOCK & TOOF unleash their debut album "Tuning Echoes" on their Tiny Sticks label. Expect repeat plays all Summer long.
