The Funk

For THE FUNKy ones--The young talent of SOUL DE MARIN has made quite a name for himself this year, appealing to multiple genres and several chart topping hits. He displays his hard work with two EP's this week, "On A Swing" for Lingo, with remixes from EMIL LANNE and JONN HAWLEY, and "Los Shuffles" for Funkfield; FILTA FREQZ get their "Salsa Dip" on; Australia's Brain Kat presents the Acid sounds of "Second Summer" returning JORES to the roster and introducing his techier alter ego JAMIE D; Trendy Mullet enlist DREW TEMPEST and TOM ELLIS to remix "That Feeling"; MR CLEAN's "I'm Sneaky" gets remixed from KANE IAN, MR PIRATED and MIKE JULES; promising young label Chronic Beats comes through with CAMOUFLAGE's "Lockdown in the Funk Bunker"; the unique funk of D'EXPERIMENT's "Home Made" has its own flavor; Black 'N Pink's second release "Shake It" is a sweet package from UNEAQ, 4PEACE and HOKUS; BRETT JOHNSON's spooky "Ghosts" gets remixed from LIL MARK and NONFICTION; and after a recent trip overseas, DJ SNEAK and MONOMAN got together and busted out a slew of tracks, and "Need Your Lovin" is the first EP to come from their new STEREO GANGSTAZ alias.

Soul Full

For the Deep and SOUL FULL catz--the legendary Downtown 161 label opens up their vaults of classics, and the first to hit the digital shelves is "Running Around" from KERRI CHANDLER's alias TRAILER ENDS, with many more from their extensive catalog to come. Malaysia's Love International offers up a soulful house excursion under the influence of label boss RAYSOO and "Rock With U"; two of Brazil's most celebrated names in the underground, AZEE & CLUADIO MANSUR, release "AfroBR" for Discotehque exclusive to Stompy; HARD MIX is under the "Influence Vol 4"; the latest release from red hot Loco is the splendid "Summer Start" by MARTIJN; the immaculate vocals of PEVEN EVERETT's "Inspiration" get the TIMMY REGISFORD workout; GENE HUNT's versatility shines through on "The Hunt is on"; "The Sound" is jazzy, deep house from JUSTIN IMPERIALE on his Cabana label; and heavy hitters MR V, JON CUTLER, DJ SMASH are featured on the "I'll House You Album: Volume 1".

For the Moody and TEK players--A regular in the sets of the worlds biggest DJ's, ACUMEN teams up with TIMID BOY for "You Make Me" on 2000 And One's new Bitten label; Kisk's ONEBOY project seems to have entered a time machine with the funk and improvisation of "Phus1ony" with a LOPAZZ remix; AUDIOJACK's new Gruuv label drops the taste of jackin house on KID CULTURE's "Summer EP"; for the third Cadenza Labs release, they present an old friend from the Geneva scene, DARIA and his "Santeria EP"; DEEPCHILD turns in a super remix of "Foundation" for Opossum; TwoBirds release their compilation "Mid Summer Digits"; local SF label Auralism drop THE TOURIST's "Lack Out"; MILTON JACKSON's "Beautiful Liars" is moody tech house from a master; and CARL CRAIG rounds up ten of Planet E's finest releases for the first label compilation in years, "Modular Music Vol 1".
