The Funk

For THE FUNKY ones--Vernon & Dacosta's Homecoming has made a profound impact this year, and once again the label stands out with "On 'n On" from THOSE FRENCH SLACKERS; "Cherri Bomb" gets a remix from HECTOR MORALEZ on the young HomeGrown label; FUNK MEDITERRANEO continues their big year with "Old Thing" exclusive to Stompy; "Woodworm Blues" is the first release from the jazzy London newcomer ELDOKO on What What; the classic DADDY's FAVOURITE track "I Feel Good Things For You" gets a 2010 update; ZEITGEIST's "Dub Because" has been a huge hit all Summer for Blockhead, and the label also get a bit deeper with TRI O FIVE's EP, "Nowhere To Go"; THE CRAFTSMEN get into the "Flow" on Candy Music; the tasteful, filtered house of "Still Waiting" comes from ATTACK YOURSELF; after their first release was a hit, Juiced Music sublabel HARD go for round 2 with J CAPRICE's "Under the Gun"; GEOFF K's funky fidget "Tweet Tweet" drops on new label Lepento; "Housemonkey" is ROB CLARKE's new one for Slick City; and the funky, jazzy sounds of the South are prominent on Cotopaxi's "Dixieland" with an ATOM and HIGH MAINTENANCE remix exclusive to Stompy.

On the DEEP and SOUL FULL tip-- new label Finale Sessions has a solid debut with "Finale Session 1" that features MOTORCITYSOUL, BLAKKAT and STAX to get the new imprint in motion; Facade lights it up with I NOMOOR's outstanding "Imaginemind" album; "The Statra Sound" is a 16-track compilation of timeless music from the esteemed label; GALAXY GROUP's "Ease Back" gets remixes from the BRAZILIAN SOUL CREW and 1200 WARRIORS for Charles Spencer's Loveslap; SOUL MINORITY remixes "Get Runny"; Baldeelox put together the jazzy sounds of their "2010 Tour Sampler"; DJ MFR's Transport and NEW MONDO project drop the "Unreleased Dubs & Rerubs"; FABIO GENITO's "Papawenda" gets remixes from ANTHONY NICHOLSON and DJINJI BROWN; 3345 Music enlist RALF GUM and HIGH MAINTENANCE for "House Sessions 1"; Ocha returns with EZEL and CARLOS MENA's "Secreto"; DJ ROMAIN & JON CUTLER team up on Nite Grooves for "De Ja Vu"; JEFF OMEGA is "Deep in the YAYA", and SCOPE shows his Windy City side with the "Chicago Connection" on Large.

For the TEK heads--M.IN has releases on the cream of the crop, and Baalsaal adds him to the roster with "The Crazies" including a LUNA CITY EXPRESS mix; DAVID LABEIJ's "Ode To The P"'s bouncing beats create a swinging summer rhythm for Remote Area; the Cocoon empire release another prime EP, "Dawns Highway"; MAX PISQUE knocks it out of the park with his "Split One" EP for Niveous Records; WAGON COOKING and ROB G remix MIKE MONDAY's "Must Be Heaven" for Om Records sublabel Smoke N Mirrors; JAY HAZE is one of the remixers for Goodvibe's sophomore release "The Dark Side", as well as reworking MICAHEL HO's "Feel It" for Tuning Spork; DAVID DURANGO remixes "Cafe Negro" on Katchuli; after the great success of PHANTOM GHOST's wonderful longplayer, here comes the first lovely single "Four Shadows" to continue their album concept; although disbanded, THE ELECTRIC PRESS' long lost recordings with TIM SHERIDAN, "Steam/Cosmos" make their way to the shelves; and originally released on Detroit label Down Low in 1997 and featured by Juan Atkins on his legendary Master Mix, WALT J's "Reborn" gets the reissue from Curle.

On the DOWN 'N OUT side--What more can be said about Wolf + Lamb, as their stable of producers has been the talk of the dance world almost daily. The chatter goes on, as NO REGULAR PLAY's "Slide Away" also gets remixes from W+L bosses ZEV and GADI MIZRAHI, who teams up with DENIZ KURTEL. Yerba Buena Discos get their hip-hop on with DNA's "The Definition" featuring TAL M KLEIN, UNEAQ and HOMERO ESPINOSA remixes; Freestyle drop two funk numbers--"In The Air" and "Again & Again"; Eskimo welcomes ILYA SANTANA back to the label with "Erin";
SHIT ROBOT drop their "From the Cradle to the Rave" album on DFA; RAYGUN remixes "Fly Zoe Fly" on Community; and its a week of GREENSKEEPERS--they release "I Am Trying" with THE JUAN MACLEAN and FLOSSTRADAMUS remixes for Om Records sublabel Childs Play, and the Greenskeepers release "Got to Have" from label head JAMES CURD.
