It's time for Round Two of the Battle Royale". This time, the matchup is Florida's Corduroy Mavericks and Nottingham's Kinky Movement. Both groups have been on a tear the past couple years, with tracks going straight to the Top 100 once they're released.
The two go head to head for Sonny Fodera's Beatdown label, with C-Mavs remixing Kinky's "Rockback", and the Movement remixing the Maverick's "Doo Wop". Hard to pick a favorite, but you can listen to the new release and decide for yourself.
Once again, we took the competition a step further with our Q&A. Round 2, Battle!
Stompy - First record you bought?
CMAVS - Michael Jackson - "Off the Wall" and "Dance" - Lawn Chair Generals - Great Escape
KINKY - A Very long time ago now, but I think it was Cameo 'Word Up" on 7inch vinyl
Stompy - Best thing about your hometown?
CMAVS - Destin, Florida: Beaches. Don't think i need to say much more ;-)
KINKY - Nottingham has had a history of producing good artists which we are happy to be named amongst, the scene was great to grow up in and we learnt a lot from those around us.
Stompy - Last concert you attended?
CMAVS - Sting
KINKY - I think it would be the APT Party in Miami.
Stompy - How many instruments do you play?
CMAVS - 2 - Guitar and Tuba (no kidding).
KINKY - Keyboard/Piano, Guitar and some percussion instruments.
Stompy - Shortest time it took you to make a track?
CMAVS - 3 hours start to finish
KINKY - Well in terms of a finished track, then about 2 days to get it sounding professionally finished, but that is not common for us, usually we like to go over our work quite a lot to make sure the production is how we want it
Stompy - Best piece of equipment in your studio?
CMAVS - Maschine
KINKY - Prophet 5 synthesiser
Stompy - Favorite pair of shoes?
CMAVS - Pumas or Adidas Gazelles (4 different colors).
KINKY - I quite like skate style clothing so probably Airwalk.
Stompy - Coolest thing you own?
CMAVS - Vinyl (both our own releases and everything else).
KINKY - My studio, It's the reason I am here answering questions.
Stompy - Best alcohol to get drunk on?
CMAVS - Captain Morgan
KINKY - Rum and coke or vodka and coke
Stompy - What's your special talent?
CMAVS - Multi tasking master and acute business acumen.
KINKY - I play live keys as well as DJ and hope to push to play live guitar in the future too.
Stompy - How many t-shirts do you own with a record label logo on them ?
CMAVS - 50+
KINKY - I have quite a lot from the WMC 2011 and a few from events before too, maybe something like 15 tshirts.
Stompy - What's your signature food dish you cook in the kitchen?
CMAVS - Sauteed chicken breast topped with jumbo lump crab meat in a parmesan cream reduction with cous cous.
KINKY - Homemade Curry and anything with a lot of flavour.
Stompy - What's your favorite track that you produced?
CMAVS - Always the one we are currently working on…we just finished a track for Union called Make the Music that is currently on my top list.
KINKY - "Atlantis" on Replay.
Stompy - What's your favorite track that the other person produced?
CMAVS - "Cosmic Ride"
